16 Weeks!

Pregnancy Highlights

How Far Along: 16 weeks

Size of baby: Baby Strickland is the size of an avocado.

What’s developing:   Baby Strickland measures about 4.5 inches (head to rump) and weighs about 3.5 ounces.  The baby's legs are much more developed.  His or her head is more erect than it has been and the eyes have moved closer to the front of the head.  The ears are close to their final position too.   The patterning of the scalp has begun even though hair isn't recognizable yet.  The baby has started to grow toenails.  The heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day.  Over the next couple of weeks the baby will double his or her weight and inches in length.

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  I weighed this morning and I have gained 3 pounds since my 1st OB appointment on December 6th.

Clothes:   Maternity jeans, but are still able to wear my regular bigger shirts.  Still in my regular scrubs pants, but have bought a few bigger tops!

Gender:  Will find out Tuesday, February 7th (hopefully, fingers crossed)

Movement: I think I may have felt a little "flutter" earlier today?

Sleep: Still waking up about 2 times per night to use the bathroom.

What I miss:  Jersey Mikes subs

Cravings: Orange Juice still and chocolate milk.

Symptoms:  Have had a few more bouts of nausea since last week.

Best Moment this week: Only one more week until we hopefully find out the gender and looking forward to getting my hair done tomorrow!  WOO HOO!!!

15 Weeks!

Pregnancy Highlights

How Far Along: 15 weeks

Size of baby: Baby Strickland is the size of an apple.

What’s developing:   Baby Strickland measures about 4 inches (crown to rump) and weighs about 2.5 ounces.  He or she is moving amniotic fluid through the nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in the lungs begin to develop.  The baby's legs are growing longer than his/her arms now.  He or she can move all those tiny joints and limbs.  The eyelids are still fused shut, but it can sense light.  The taste buds are also forming.

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  I weighed this morning and I have gained 0.8 pounds since my 1st OB appointment on December 6th.

Clothes:   Maternity jeans, but are still able to wear my regular bigger shirts.  Still in my regular scrubs FOR NOW.

Gender:  Will find out Tuesday, February 7th (hopefully, fingers crossed)

Movement: Haven’t felt any movement yet.

Sleep: Waking up about 2 times per night to use the bathroom.

What I miss:  Jersey Mikes subs

Cravings: Orange Juice and strawberries this week.

Symptoms:  Not really having any symptoms now since the nausea is gone.

Best Moment this week: A week of no nausea or vomiting.

What’s developing:   Baby Strickland can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his/her thumb.  The kidneys are producing urine, which he/she releases into the amniotic fluid (this continues until birth).  Baby Strickland should measure about 3.5 inches and weight about 1.5 ounces.  It is also starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy layer of hair, called lanugo, that covers the body.

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  Gained just a few pounds total... DIDN' T GAIN ANY THE WHOLE MONTH OF DECEMBER (I guess from the nausea and occasional vomiting)

Clothes:  Had been able to wear my regular jeans until about 1 week ago, have now transitioned to maternity jeans.  Still able to wear my regular bigger shirts.  Still in my regular scrubs FOR NOW.

We're Expecting

We are excited that we are expecting our 1st child together July 15, 2012.  I am currently 12 weeks and 5 days.  We had our 1st OB appointment on December 6th and had an ultrasound just to comfirm dates.  We were able to see our little one and also hear the heart beat then.  We went to our second OB appointment on Tuesday, January 3rd and heard the heart beat on the doppler (it was in the 160's).   I have had some nausea with occasional vomiting in the mornings, but this sickness is well worth it.  We told all of our family over Christmas and everyone is excited!!!  My next OB appointment is on Tuesday, February 7th for a survey Ultrasound and to determine the gender if possible.
